acoustic journey Soothing vibrations, light, music and nature sounds are blended in a unique process that “relaxes the body and frees the mind.” Using light goggles and professional headphones, an Acoustic Journey can be both mind-expanding and transformational in nature.

 

acupressure An ancient Chinese technique, based on the same concepts as acupuncture, which involves the use of finger pressure on specific points of the body to treat tension, stress, pain, cramping, arthritis and other imbalances.

 

acupuncture An ancient Chinese technique performed by a licensed practitioner, who
inserts fine needles into key meridian points that correspond to major organs of the body to regulate the flow of vital energy (Chi) and blood. Used for prevention, maintenance and treatment of a wide variety of specific health problems.

 

aikido A flowing and graceful Japanese martial art focusing on self-defense and
spiritual discipline to harmonize one’s energy with that of the challenger and use the challenger’s strength and weight to force them into a non-threatening position.

 

allergy repatterning Also called Allergy Elimination. Kinesiology is used to
identify allergies. Acupressure points are then stimulated to clear the body’s allergy-like response and enhance energy flow in the body. Improvement is usually noticed in one visit, however multiple allergies may take a series of visits. May be combined with other modalities to relieve symptoms.

allopathic medicine Another term for standard Western medicine, as it is currently
taught in medical schools.

angel therapy Through the activation of Divine Love, connect with Angels, the
Archangels or deceased loved ones for guidance, spiritual healing, answered prayers, self-empowerment and more. Angel Therapy includes prayer work, Angel readings, mediumship or spiritual counseling. Facilitated by a certified Angel Therapy Practitioner.
 
animal communicator An Animal Communicator communicates with animals using their
telepathic, intuitive and empathic abilities to send and receive information to and from animals in the form of pictures, words, thoughts and feelings. This form of communication allows the animals to more clearly express themselves and helps them to better understand people. Especially helpful when trying to pinpoint the underlying causes of behavioral, emotional or physical problems. Animal Communicators work long distance as well as in person, and some use additional modalities to assist in resolving issues.

applied kinesiology A system that evaluates a person’s health based on structural,
chemical and mental aspects by using manual muscle testing along with other standard methods of diagnosis. Treatment often includes nutritional counseling and other complementary therapies. See also Muscle Testing.

aromatherapy The use of pure essential and absolute oils distilled from plants to
treat emotional and physical disorders and a wide range of other dysfunctions. The oils
can be massaged into the skin, inhaled, diffused into the air or placed in baths and are
often used along with other holistic treatments.

art therapy An Art Therapist uses the creation of visual images by a client to
affect desired changes in the client’s psychological, physical, cognitive, spiritual or social functioning. Sessions are designed based on the needs of the individual, family or group. Artistic talent is not necessary. Therapists are registered and/or board certified.

astrology A science based on the positions of the stars and planets and their
possible influence on humanity. An astrologist can work with a client to provide insight into personality, professional and health matters.

aura Every living being is composed of light. We are light bound into living matter.
In reality, our bodies do not produce light, light produces the body. This light can be
measured through Kirilean Photography.

ayurvedic medicine The 5000-year-old traditional medical science in India, Ayurveda
is based upon treating individuals according to three basic body types or doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). Diet, detoxification, exercise, herbs and meditation are used to maintain or restore the body’s natural state of balance.

bioenergetics A method that measures reactivity using acupuncture meridian points.
It is based on the Chinese medical theory that improper energy flow through the meridians causes energy imbalances in the body, which can lead to illness.

biofeedback A non-invasive modality that takes direct, real time measurements of the
body’s dynamic responses regarding the various states or conditions of stress. This
information is used to influence, change or modify the stress condition for optimal stress adaptation and wellness.

biospiritual focusing Promotes alignment with the body’s spiritual wisdom, allowing
it to release deep-seated, self-defeating beliefs. As a result, one experiences the
wholeness of Spirit-perfect health, harmony, peace, love, abundance and joy. This process can be done with a facilitator or by oneself.

body talk Practitioners use muscle testing to communicate with the client’s innate
wisdom to identify treatment priorities and to facilitate the client’s physical, emotional,
mental and spiritual healing. The practitioner then addresses the priority item(s) non-invasively.

body wraps The entire body is wrapped in elastic bandages soaked in a pure herb and
mineral solution. When the client moves around to increase circulation, cell walls are
penetrated and impurities are purged. Often used to firm the skin, lose inches or eliminate cellulite. Wraps may also be used at home.

body-mind therapy A counseling technique using messages from the body (such as
illness, aches or behaviors) and dealing with the underlying emotional issue or unexpressed thought or feeling in order to gain insight into the subconscious mind. May include modalities such as biofeedback, bodywork and hypnotherapy.

bowen therapy A series of gentle moves that are performed on the body to stimulate
the muscle/nerve/connective tissues and to release physical and emotional blocks,
empowering the body’s own resources to heal itself. Used with all ages for arthritis, fibromyalgia, lymphatic drainage, scoliosis and more.

brain gym® A system of quick physical activities that directly enhance brain
function. Based on the principle that developing the brain’s neural pathways the way nature does serves to awaken the client’s natural abilities and enhance performance in all areas. Taught in groups or private sessions.

chi Also spelled Qi. The universal life force energy or prana that runs through all
living things, flows along meridians and becomes blocked during illness or imbalance. Many modalities help restore the healthy flow of chi, including Acupuncture, Tai Chi, Chi Kung and forms of energy healing such as Reiki.

chi kung Also spelled Qi Gong. Chinese based movement and breathing method used to stimulate and balance the body’s energy flow to facilitate self- healing. Often
recommended for blood circulation, relaxation, improved immune functions, better poise and balance. colonics Also called Hydrotherapy, the large intestine is irrigated using warm purified water to remove stool and toxins from the body, thereby enhancing the absorption of water, nutrients and electrolytes. A disposable, sanitary FDA-approved system is used. The body’s immune system is greatly affected by the health of the colon.

community supported agriculture (csa) CSA members receive a weekly portion of
organically grown produce during the growing season (in Central Colorado, usually mid-June to mid-October). This arrangement connects local organic farmers to health-oriented consumers, which impacts their sustenance, their communities and the earth. See also Organic and Sustainablility.

core energetics A form of psychotherapy striving to reach the client’s innermost
level of consciousness by using bodywork and spiritual guidance to help the client become more loving, caring and vibrant.

craniosacral therapy Gentle non-invasive physical manipulation of the structure and
formation of the spinal connective membranes to free the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. Suitable for all ages and useful in the treatment of chronic pain, TMJ and a variety of other conditions. Practitioners are licensed.

crystal children One of several names given to the second wave of children of the
21st century who embody the new paradigm. Highly intuitive, open hearted, wise and vulnerable, they embrace others with love and are so fluent in matters of the heart that they find it easy to communicate without words. Like the Indigo Children, they are often bright, talented, precocious and highly intuitive, however, unlike the Indigo Children, they are more easy-going, compassionate and accepting of others’ dysfunctional behaviors.

crystal healing/therapy Crystals can include rocks and gemstones as well as quartz.
Crystals amplify (magnify and expand) energy, intention and personal issues. Each type of crystal or gemstone carries a vibration of colored light, usually reflected in its color, and can aid an individual’s process of personal growth.

deep tissue bodywork Term for a range of massage therapies that utilize more intense
levels of pressure to loosen the connective tissues and/or muscles, thereby reducing pain and improving function.

dentists-biological Biological Dentists recognize the connection between the causes
and effects of problems that plague a person’s health, whether they be dental issues,
systemic issues or both, and investigate the underlying cause of dental disease, rather than just treating the effect. Doctors consider the impact of dental materials and techniques on the body, considering the patient’s total health and well-being.

detoxification The process of eliminating toxins, parasites or excess waste in order
to revitalize the immune and digestive systems. Methods can include fasting, use of herbs or colonics.

developmental needs meeting strategy(dnms) DNMS is a method of psychotherapy in
which a client is able to connect with his or her own resources (a nurturing adult self, a
protective adult self and a core self), so that healing can take place and a client can grow to meet his or her own potential.

divine light healing The process of using the highest frequencies of Light energy
from the Source of All Healing. First, the appropriate frequency of Divine Light energy
transmutes or neutralizes the causes of pain, disease and dysfunction on the physical, mental, emotional and soul levels. Then an additional frequency or color of Light energy is applied to restore full health and vitality. Love energy sent to the heart completes the healing process.

doulas A Greek term meaning “one who ministers”; a person who specializes in
mothering the mother. A birth doula is trained and experienced in childbirth and provides continuous information and physical and emotional support to the mother during labor, birth and the hours directly following. After birth, the postpartum doula is trained in the care of new families.

dream interpretation A dream not understood is like a letter not opened. When dreams
are remembered and understood, a whole new dimension of wisdom and insight is added to life, bringing greater meaning and humor to life.

ear coning Also called Ear Candling. Beeswax cones are placed into the ear and the
opposite end is ignited, producing a painless, warm vacuum that pulls earwax and foreign debris from the ear canal. May also be used for sinus infections.

emotional freedom technique (efd) An emotional release process based on the
energetics of the meridian system, designed to release fears, phobias, pain, addictions and other limiting beliefs. This technique involves tapping on specific points on the body, performing eye movements and repeating affirmations. Permanent relief from long-standing problems can be achieved quickly.

emotional healing This involves any process, methodology or technique used to help
resolve feelings and emotions that are either on the surface or buried within the body-mind. Emotional healing often involves a shift in thought patterns and belief systems, as well as a clearing in the

etheric bodies. All emotions (feelings) that are fear-based, such as anger, guilt and shame can be healed.

energy balancing A broad term referring to various methods that seek to improve a
client’s health and well-being by restoring their energetic frequencies. Essential oils,
flower essences, crystals, herbs, nutrition and supplements, bodywork and energy healing such as Reiki are only some of the methods used. See also Aura, Energy Field Work and Reiki.

energy field work The practitioner directs the energy of the universe to balance and
restore the energy fields in and around the client’s body, helping to strengthen the
client’s ability to bring their own mind, body and spirit into balance and harmony. Treatment can occur in the auric field or may involve the laying on of hands.

essential oils For millennia, mankind has used aromatic plants and concentrated
essential oils from plants for healing. Using these multi-faceted oils with their complex synergies can help energize, regenerate, balance, calm, improve moods and strengthen multiple systems of the body at once and does not disturb the complex healthy flora of the body.

esthetician A specialist in the care of skin, makeup techniques and aging prevention
methods including detoxification, chemical peels, electro-light therapy, facial massage and hair removal. Also spelled Aesthetician.

eye movement desensitization and reprocessing(emdr) EMDR is a method of
psychotherapy using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, hand taps or sounds) to stimulate the brain’s information processing system. Clients often achieve therapeutic goals at a rapid rate with permanent, recognizable changes. Effective with trauma, depression, addictions…

feldenkrais® A method where the client is taught to focus on their movement and
postural patterns in order to improve them, and enhance human functioning and their natural abilities to learn and change. Based on the fact that a shift in movement patterns often forwards a shift in thinking.

feng shui A Feng Shui practitioner studies the environment and energy patterns of a
home or office space for their effect on the lives of the individual(s) or staff. Changes in furniture arrangement, placement of objects on display, and color schemes are then suggested to balance and harmonize the life of the occupants in all realms, including health, happiness, relationships and prosperity.

flower essences The use of potentized flower extracts to balance emotional and
mental states, thus relieving certain imbalances. Flower Essences can be mixed with water or brandy, taken orally, placed in sprays or used in baths. The client may be involved in deciding which essence(s) to use.

guided imagery A powerful and gentle technique that focuses and directs the
imagination, guided imagery can be used by anyone for sports enhancement, reaching desired goals, healing and emotional contentment.

healing touch The practitioner uses light touch or holds his/her hands near the
patient’s body to realign the body’s energy fields. It is often practiced to complement other healing practices and can be used to accelerate wound healing, relieve pain, promote spiritual health and ease the dying process.

heart center therapy (hct) HCT is a loving and gentle approach using dialoguing that
brings awareness to areas of deep disconnection, and supports reintegration and wholeness through a heart-centered process. The therapist holds the intention to bring any issue or conflict to “resolution” through love, acceptance and transformation of the whole being. HCT also teaches specific applications that enable practitioners to address the emotional aspects of physical injury and emotional trauma.

herbal towel wrap/steam tent Client is wrapped with towels that are soaked in hot
water with herbs, and then wrapped in more towels to hold in warmth. A steam tent is placed over the client’s body with the head outside the tent. An herbal steam fills the tent while the therapist gives the client a face and scalp treatment.

herbs/herbology The science of using herbs and plants to maintain health, alleviate
specific conditions and/or support bodily functions. Herbs are used by many holistic
practitioners and medical doctors are also studying and prescribing herbs in their practices.

holistic Also spelled wholistic, a term describing non-traditional health
modalities, products and services that can help move people and the planet toward wholeness, harmony and balance.

holistic healing A wide range of modalities whose myriad of practitioners believe
the whole person--body, mind and spirit--must be in balance in order for them to achieve or maintain health, harmony and happiness.

holographic repatterning® (hr) HR is a step-by-step process of healing that enables
one to identify and transform subconscious life-depleting responses that underlie pain,
sickness, unworkable relationships or any other limitation. HR also facilitates a shift in
frequency wave patterns so one resonates with their positive goals and intentions, moving towards their full potential.

homeopathy A natural medical science that uses extremely small and safe doses of
substances from plant, mineral or animal kingdoms to stimulate a person’s immune system. The basic principle is the law of similars (like cures like), which is demonstrated in conventional medicine through the use of vaccinations and allergy treatments. The Homeopath considers the individual symptoms and how each person experiences the dis-ease, and does not prescribe according to the imbalance. Homeopathic remedies are FDA approved.

hormonal balancing Lack of wellness can be due to an imbalance in the endocrine
system when hormones, such as estrogen, progesterone or testosterone, are not available to the body in a balanced manner, and/or DHEA production is decreased. Balancing one’s hormone levels is usually done on an individual basis to address individual needs. Hormonal levels can be assessed through blood or saliva tests.

hot stone massage (Also called La Stone Therapy) A form of body work involving the
use of heated and cooled stones applied to the body in various ways to bring about renewal, deep relaxation and relief to stiff and sore muscles.

humanistic neuro-linguistic psychology (hnlp) HNLP is a creative integration of
quantum physics, modern neuro-science, hypnosis, accelerated learning, spirituality and common sense, and the study of how Mind creates reality through language and behavior. HNLP recognizes that all are on the path to Self-Actualization. See also NLP.

huna An ancient and simple Hawaiian philosophy with seven principles that offer
clients gentle guidance for walking their talk and connecting with their spirit self. A Huna shaman/student is a healer of relationships: between mind and body, between people, between people and circumstance, between humans and Nature, and between matter and spirit.hypnotherapy A range of techniques that bypass the conscious mind and directly access the subconscious mind for behavioral, emotional or attitude modification. Shown to be effective in many areas including minimizing discomfort from medical procedures, addictions, eating disorders and phobias.

immune system therapeutics Nutritional supplementation that repairs and builds the
immune system, supports proper detoxification and increases the antioxidant levels is
combined with other therapies that include lymph system drainage, oxygen/ozone therapies, a myriad of massage therapies, colon therapy, color therapy, breath work, sound therapy, yoga and visualization.

indigenous ways A broad term that may refer to “The Red Path,” a traditional Native
American way of life or spirituality. It may include the use of herbs and plants as healing tools and/or as tools for ceremony.

indigo children One of several names given to those pioneering children of the 21st
century who have come to challenge old paradigms and pave the way for new paradigms. Like the Crystal Children, they are often bright, talented, precocious and highly intuitive. Unlike the Crystal Children, they feel alienated in a world they do not understand and search for a sense of belonging in a world that doesn’t understand them. Tenacious in their knowingness, intolerant of deception or manipulation, and uncompromising in their purpose, they are often diagnosed as ADD or ADHD and labeled as problem children.

inner child therapy A psychotherapeutic method of reliving childhood traumas and
fears to resolve present psychological problems.

integrative medicine A term for practices that recognize and appreciate the value of
all healing and medical traditions and utilize modalities and treatments that are the most effective for each individual.

intuitive readings Intuition is a direct knowing or learning of something without
the conscious use of reasoning. A “reading” involves an assessment of a person’s energy field and can be given by a reverend, a lay person or a licensed health counselor. Intuitive readings include psychic readings and are often requested by individuals who seek answers to specific questions in their lives.

iridology This study of the iris is used as a diagnostic tool to determine body
constitution, inherent strengths, health levels and disease predictions. Can be used by
naturopaths and other practitioners along with other diagnostic methods.

jin shin jyutsu® A physio-philosophy that involves the application of hands for
gently balancing the flow of life energy in the body. No physical manipulation of muscle is involved. The practitioner’s hands are used as “jumper cables” to redirect and unblock the flow of energy along its pathways.

kabbalah The Hebrew tradition of mysticism, it is a mystical and esoteric
interpretation of the scriptures. Within these teachings are maps and codes pertaining to creation and humankind. Kabbalah involves traditions and lore, which were originally passed along as oral transmissions from rabbis to their students. Knowledge of Kabbalah requires decades of study and practice.

kinesiology/muscle testing See Muscle Testing and Applied Kinesiology.
labyrinth An ancient tool for modern day contemplation and a walking meditation
consisting of a spiraling and meaningful path. As sacred geometry, it is a divine imprint found in religious traditions.

life coaching A Life Coach supports their client to be on the path of their dreams
and provides them with a structure to live in alignment with what is important to them, helping them to develop increased confidence and passion and to optimize performance, productivity and well-being.

light therapy Also called Color-Light Therapy, it affects the entire autonomic
nervous system, increases circulation, stimulates tissue growth and relieves muscle and joint pain. Based on the idea that the light entering the eyes was not just for the purpose of vision, but was also being sent to one of the most important parts of the brain, the hypothalamus, which regulates the endocrine system.

live blood cell analysis A drop of blood (acquired by pricking the finger) is viewed
under a high-powered microscope to check for parasites, yeast, bacteria, free radicals,
nutritional deficiencies, colon stress, adrenal stress, hormonal stress, structural stress, etc. Not a diagnosis, but a screening process that helps assess nutritional needs of the client. Follow-up visits check progress.

luminous healing The Luminous Energy Field (LEF) is defined as the “aura or “halo”
that surrounds the physical body. Shamans and medicine men and women see the LEF as a template of light that determines how the body heals. Predisposed illness may be treated before it manifests in the physical body--healing ancient soul wounds and preventing illness from expressing itself physically, thereby enhancing the immune system to accelerate the healing process.

lymph drainage/lymphedema treatment A method of hands-on bodywork that combines anatomy and direct listening techniques to enable practitioners to feel and affect the lymphatic flow. It has been shown to aid detoxification, assist the body in deep cleansing, stimulate fluid circulation, increase immune function, induce deep relaxation and reduce muscle spasms.

martial arts Various methods that focus on endurance and muscular strength, as well
as balance between mind and body. Known mostly for self defense, but also used to improve mental and spiritual development. See also Aikido, Chi Kung and Tai Chi.

massage therapy The practice by a Licensed Massage Therapist of manipulating soft
tissue, muscles, ligaments and tendons to promote healing. Benefits include decreased muscle tension, pain and soreness and increased flexibility, joint mobility and circulation. Styles and methodsvary.

mediation & arbitration Meetings that are conducted by a neutral third party, who is
trained in conflict resolution, in order to help arguing parties reach agreement and avoid further confrontation, such as court hearings.

meditation A term describing practices that involve quieting and relaxing the mind
to bring body and mind into harmony. Meditation can involve breathing deeply and concentrating on one’s breath or on a mantra. Some seek harmony with a higher power, while others wish to reduce stress or ease ailments.

myofascial release A hands-on technique of applying stretches and pressure, which
may be gentle or aggressive, to the fascia and muscles. Tension and pain are relieved by releasing and lengthening the fascia, which allows muscles to return to their correct position, length and function. Certification is required in massage, physical or occupational therapy.

natural meats The term natural implies that the animals were fed organic food and/or
may have been free-range. Natural meats are not supposed to contain hormones or antibiotics. Buyers need to beware, as consumers are sometimes exploited because, technically, the word natural means “arising from nature.”

naturopathic medicine Doctors of Naturopathy (NDs) are not medical doctors and have
been extensively trained in the prevention of disease, encouragement of the body’s
inherent healing abilities, natural treatment of the whole person, personal responsibility for one’s health and education of patients in health-promoting lifestyles. This practice blends centuries-old knowledge of natural, nontoxic therapies with current advances in the understanding of health and human systems.

network spinal analysis An approach to wellness and body awareness, practiced by
Chiropractors. Gentle precise touch to the spine cues the brain to create new wellness-promoting strategies, associated with spontaneous release of spinal and life tensions, and the use of existing tension as fuel for spinal re-organization and enhanced wellness. Facilitates greater self-awareness and consciousness of the relationship between mind, body, emotions and spirit.

neuro-linguistic programming (nlp) A methodology and set of techniques that are used
to alter patterns of thought, behavior and language. NLP tools are often used to assist
the client in organizing their conscious and unconscious resources to accomplish goals in personal/spiritual development, education and business performance.

neuro-semantics (ns) Twenty-first century model for awakening one’s inner
intelligence to effectively cope with life. On the personal level, it can be a pathway to
self-mastery and success. See also NLP.

neuromuscular integrative action (nia) The body is designed for movement and NIA is
designed to move the body in a natural and pleasant way, utilizing various forms of
conscious movement in support of core flexibility and strength, as well as healthy alignment and posture. Activation of the senses heightens kinesthetic (body) intelligence.

neuromuscular therapy The clinical, treatment-specific massage therapy that
addresses the cause of soft tissue pain and its relationship to the brain, spine and nerves. Typically, results are felt in one to four sessions.

nutrition Primary nutrition is food direct from nature--vegetables, fruits, nuts,
seeds, grains and legumes without preservatives or synthetics. Secondary nutrition consists of vitamins and supplements that are added to the base of primary nutrition, if needed. Empty nutrition consists of food that has been processed and packaged to the point where none of the original nutritional value is left.

organic foods & produce No pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, antibiotics or
hormones are permitted in an organic production system either before or after harvest or slaughter. This sustainable industry is deeply connected to both political and planetary issues, to personal health and the health of communities and the environment. See Community Supported Agriculture.

organic gardening Gardening done without the use of herbicides, pesticides,
fungicides or other toxic chemicals, it incorporates the use of non-toxic substances, and may use organic fertilizer, manure and other unaltered substances found in nature. Seeds and plants used are also organic.

oriental medicine This broad category includes Acupuncture, Chi Kung, Chinese
Herbology, and any other healing modality that originated in the Orient.

ortho-bionomy® A painless technique that uses comfortable positioning and movement, the registered practitioner works non-invasively with neuromuscular tension patterns, accessing the client’s self-corrective reflexes, thereby facilitating pain relief, structural balance and a greater sense of well-being. Function is improved through gentle re-education.

osteopathic manipulation Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) are licensed
physicians who have received additional training in how to manipulate the musculo-skeletal system. Through spinal manipulation, DO’s can address injury and illness and aid the body’s own selfhealing abilities.

osteopathic medicine Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) are fully qualified
physicians with extra training on the musculoskeletal system and physical manipulation. DOs may employ standard and/or alternative medical practices to diagnose and address health problems and to help patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that encourage the body’s own natural ability to heal itself and prevent illness. past life regression See Regression Therapy.

personal trainers This term includes Fitness Trainers, Body Building Trainers and
others who work with individuals to help them achieve maximum physical strength and fitness through building muscles and/or muscle tone. Personal trainers may work in conjunction with a gym and uses equipment such as weights, stair-steppers and pulleys.

 

physicians Physicians are medical doctors or osteopaths who are licensed to practice medicine and to prescribe drugs. They have undergone extensive training in anatomy, physiology, etiology of disease and pharmaceutical medicine. They most often espouse traditional Western medicine, but some have gone on to study naturopathy, herbology or other alternative methods. Those who specialize in surgery are not considered to be physicians.

 

polarity therapy A comprehensive health system involving energy-based bodywork, diet, exercise and self-awareness. Health is viewed as a reflection of the condition of the energy field. Sessions do not require disrobing and involve both touch and verbal interaction.

 

power prayer See Prayer Work.

 

prayer work Utilizing intentional thoughts, emotions, feelings and Natural Laws, the client cocreates with God to manifest that which they desire.

 

prenatal/postpartum massage Specific massage techniques developed to ease discomfort and facilitate an easier birth and to return muscles to their normal functioning after birth.

prolotherapy A painful but effective ligament/tendon repair technique whereby
irritants are injected into the body, causing inflammation, which in turn stimulates the body’s natural healing response and forms new collagen. This therapy is used to decrease painful joints and weak, lax or strained ligaments.

 

psych-k™ and per-k™ A direct way to identify and change subconscious beliefs that perpetuate old habits and unwanted behaviors. The practitioner uses muscle testing to communicate with the client’s subconscious mind, left and right brain integration techniques, as well as PSYCH-K™ tools and processes.

 

psychotherapy An interactive counseling process between client and therapist requiring concentration, energy and commitment by both parties. The most frequently used types of psychotherapy are psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive and behavioral.

 

raindrop technique A technique employed by a certified Massage Therapist
incorporating the use of essential oils that are massaged along the spine to help stimulate health, wellness and relaxation.

 

reflexology The application of finger pressure and massage to specific points on the hands and/or feet that correspond to specific parts or organs of the body to stimulate the body’s own healing powers. Often used in conjunction with other modalities.

regression therapy Based on the tenet that many present-day problems are connected
to unresolved problems from the past, including childhood traumas and/or previous
lives. Hypnosis or guided meditation is used to reach the source of the trauma and to aid in resolution.

 

reiki/reiki classes (Pronounced ray-key.) An ancient spiritual hands-on-healing technique that is gentle and non-invasive, meaning Universal Lifeforce Energy. The practitioner channels this energy with their hands to promote the healing of mind, body and spirit. Can be done in person (fully clothed) or long distance. In classes, a Reiki Master attunes students to the flow of this energy.

 

remote viewing Also called Resonant Viewing, it is a systematic set of procedures that allows someone to transcend the conscious mind and gain access to intuitions, subtle senses and perceptions so as to obtain very accurate information about events, people and places that are far away in space and time.

 

shamanic healing/teaching This ancient form of healing uses an altered state of consciousness with cooperation of spirit helpers in a hidden reality. While maintaining conscious control and total recall during the spiritual travel, these helpers offer insights.

 

somatic therapy The use of physical touch to access the body’s intelligence, revealing blockages, distortions and misperceptions that cause physical and emotional pain and limitation. Highly effective in the treatment of trauma.

 

sound healing Sounds are elemental vibrations that stimulate the auditory nerves, producing the sensation of hearing. Sound Healing uses tones and sounds either found in nature, made by tuning forks, singing bowls, musical instruments or one’s own voice. Sounds carry various frequencies and vibrations, and are used to restore balance to the human energy field. Practitioners believe that all living things are the vibration of sound and light, and that the cells, organs, hormones, nutrients and other natural compounds all have a distinct resonance and can be supported by sound.

 

spiritual direction/counseling Spiritual Direction is differentiated from psychological counseling in that it is a mystical encounter, with God working through the director and client. During prayerful discussions, the client gains insights into life’s experiences, their spiritual nature and expands awareness.

 

spiritual healing Practitioners are considered conductors of spiritual and healing
energy. Certain assistants such as angels, spiritual forces or power animals may be called upon to aid in client’s emotional or physical care.

 

sustainable living The practice of focusing on conserving natural resources,
recognizing the consequences of one’s actions on the environment and making sustainable choices that do not sacrifice the quality of life for future generations. Sustainable agriculture plans for an ecologically sound practice that will last as long as the world does. See also permaculture.

 

tai ji (tai chi) Daily exercise using structured movements and meditative forces to
improve physical fitness, mental and spiritual well-being and bring balance to one’s life.
Practiced in China for centuries and often a part of the martial arts regime.
thai massage An ancient Siamese (Thai) bodywork system designed to unblock trapped energy in the major pathways and improve vitality by applying pressure along the meridians. Massage therapy certification required.

 

therapeutic horsemanship Therapeutic horseback riding is used to promote
self-awareness, relationship skills and personal growth, and to improve posture, balance, mobility and function especially in people with physical disabilities. Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning is led by a certified therapeutic riding instructor who is specifically trained and Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy involves the addition of a licensed mental health professional.

 

therapeutic touch (tt) Practiced primarily by nurses, TT involves an energy exchange
in which the practitioners use their hands to facilitate a healing process. TT incorporates several ancient healing practices and views the bodymind as a complex, dynamic energy field. Credentials are required to practice and to teach.

 

thermography Digital infrared thermal imaging is a non-invasive and non-radiation
clinical imaging procedure that detects and monitors significant health concerns and
injuries. Images of thermal abnormalities are captured, shown on a computer monitor and sent to certified doctors to be interpreted. Patient receives their report and a color printout of their scan. Breast thermography, useful in screening, may detect the earliest possible signs of developing breast pathology.

 

touch for health® A method of rebalancing the energy field with gentle pressure to
muscles and other body points, which may include applied kinesiology, acupressure, massage and nutrition.

 

trager® approach The certified practitioner gently and rhythmically rocks and
stretches the body, loosening tight muscles and painful joints to induce a state of deep

trigger point release A massage technique using concentrated finger pressure to

vibrational therapies/healing Vibrational healing reformats and restructures the
body’s communication systems by facilitating renewal and awakening on cellular levels where the keys to transformation are accessed. Some of the synergistic therapies include bodywork, energy work, essential oils, essences, crystals and language reformatting.

 

visceral manipulation A manual therapy focusing on restoring normal mobility of the

watsu A finger massage performed in chest-high warm water that uses the same
meridian points as acupuncture. The client’s body can glide into positions impossible on land and the spine is freed of gravitational force. Deep levels of relaxation, childhood memories and trance states are commonly experienced.

 

yoga Meaning “union,” this ancient science concentrates on uniting body, mind and
spirit through awareness, movement and breath. There are many types of yoga. The proven health benefits include stress control, improved physical fitness, health and flexibility, mental clarity and a general feeling of well-being.
